Elle Edwards Bailey
Girl names are hard! When I was pregnant with Owen, Brian & I had a girl name we were set on—but since finding out this baby is a girl, we're not as keen on it.
Brian's favorite name has been Elle since the beginning of our brainstorming. I love that he has an opinion & love that he's now named both of our children.
Like Owen, the name Elle fits into the parameters we set for ourselves – it does mean something to us, it can't be shortened, it's different but not too different, it's a first-name-first kind of name, and it's a good baby name as well as an adult name. A new parameter we set this time was to have a name that's not too girly—even an ambigendrous one. We also wanted to incorporate family into our name.
Elle means "she," "sun ray" and "God's oath." It is a variant of Elaine (my middle name) and Elizabeth (Aunt Beth's middle name). Elle is also part of ELLEn (Lulu's middle name) and kELLy (Aunt Kelly). I just love all of that family meaning!
Edward is Poppy's middle name. We added the "s" to make it not so masculine. Regardless of the gender, we wanted to use my dad's name somehow.
We actually like Elle Edwards as a double-name, but will just call her Elle for simplicity and ease.
So that's it! Just like Owen, we hope that our daughter will be proud of her name and the meaning behind it!
