the little things that are not so little

9.28.2010

"Unless the LORD builds the house,
its builders labor in vain.
Unless the LORD watches over the city,
the watchmen stand guard in vain.

In vain you rise early
and stay up late,
toiling for food to eat—
for while they sleep he provides for those he loves."

Psalm 127:1-2

Last week was exhausting and left me wishing for more hours in the days. Do you ever have those weeks that you feel like you've over committed yourself, but there's nothing you want to say "no" to? That's where I was. With a long list of "to-do's" running through my head, Brian & I headed out to small group on Tuesday night. I prayed that God would clear my mind and that our time there would be focused on the one thing that mattered.

The very next night the "to-do's" were back, overflowing again, as I drove around lost on the way to Bible Study. I debated just driving home, but once I got there I knew exactly Who brought me there. The chapter was on Elijah and entitled "Changing Our Schedule" (from Fran Sciacca's book, To Walk and Not Grow Weary). It spoke to me in the clearest way.

This week I am feeling very aware of my time. There is still an ever-growing list of to do's, but it's refreshing to know that my time is in His hands and I need only to ask Him for guidance on how best to use it.
