PRESENT OVER PERFECT

2.11.2014

borrowed from here

At the start of each new year, I try to make & write down goals that I have for myself (and Brian & I have for our family). I am a list-maker, a planner, and a perfectionist at heart—so, a new year and new list makes my heart happy. I love the feeling of accomplishing, crossing off, and doing those things we set out to do.

Back in December I read a blog post that really challenged me. Shauna Niequist wrote about the idea & phrase: PRESENT OVER PERFECT. It's the idea of letting go a little of perfection—and gaining presence, rest, and meaning. It's being present with loved ones and in every thing.

When I wrote out my 2014 list, I first put PRESENT OVER PERFECT at the top of the page. And as it turns out, it's an underlying theme of each and every one of my goals. Shauna summed it up this way...

Present over perfect.

Quality over quantity.

Relationship over rushing.

People over pressure.

Meaning over mania.

Living PRESENT OVER PERFECT is a daily choice—a prayer—guiding words for me this year.
