Last October my dear friend, Elliot, recommended a book – "Jesus Calling" by Sarah Young. It was given to her soon after she was diagnosed with cancer (which is a separate post that has been drafted & sitting for almost a month...). It was just like Elliot to encourage a friend, all the while needing the encouragement herself – especially as she began the fight of her life. But, I digress...
As soon as she mentioned it, I went out and bought it. My thinking was that it would help me to "follow along" with El as she journeyed, as she often quoted from the book on her Caring Bridge site. It also helped me to know specifically how to pray for her. What a blessing it has been!
The book is set up as a 365-Day Devotional, and to be honest, it's not unusual for me to "catch up" by reading multiple days at once. When I opened it up tonight it was perfect for me & the way my thoughts are often captivated. So incredibly applicable for me! And, how comforting it is to be reminded that all I need to do is rest in His presence.
One of my favorite quotes is: "Worry is like a rocking chair; it takes a lot of energy, but gets you no where!"
From "Jesus Calling":
One of my favorite quotes is: "Worry is like a rocking chair; it takes a lot of energy, but gets you no where!"
From "Jesus Calling":
Vast quantities of your time and energy are wasted in obsessive planning. When you let Me direct your steps, you are set free to enjoy Me and to find what I have prepared for you this day."
I will instruct you and teach you in the way you should go; I will counsel you and watch over you.
Psalm 32:8
Let me hear of your unfailing love each morning, for I am trusting you. Show me where to walk, for I give myself to you.
Psalm 143:8
