[A few] Pictures from Bermuda

7.22.2009

Bermuda was amazing! The country, the water – it's all beautiful. We weren't really sure what to expect other than what we'd heard from Mom & Dad (they went for New Years) and what we'd read, but when we saw this out the window upon arrival we knew we were going to be in paradise. This is the bluest water Brian's ever seen & he wanted to swim immediately. [Note = pictures do not do justice!]

My mom's cousin, Cindy & her husband, David (who grew up in Bermuda), live in Bermuda and have a cottage/guesthouse rental business called Greenbank (which is where we stayed). Our trip began when Cindy picked us up at the airport (thank you thank you). We spent our first night "barbecuing" with family (Cindy, David, their daughter Laura, and David's brother's family) and catching up. This time was so special for me – it's been a while since I've seen everyone!

Our Cottage – Driftwood

The landscape had a real tropical feel with all of the palm trees, but also a woodsy feel with the pine trees. It was very lush.
SUCH pretty flowers

This is Elbow Beach. It wasn't the most popular, but definitely the prettiest. The sand was pink and incredibly soft, and the water was crystal clear.

This is at Mickey's Restaurant – the first time/last time we ate here. Brian's sandwich was $18 and my caesar salad salad was $22!! It was this experience that led us to skipping lunch almost every other day. Speaking of food prices – they are outrageous! The example we kept giving is that a 35 pack of deer park water at the grocery store = $18!!

This is Church Bay – best snorkeling on the island. The island, by the way, is only 21 miles long. Church bay was pretty rocky, there are a lot of close reefs. It was a little tricky getting into the water b/c of the rough waves, but it was worth it.

This is us at The Reefs Restaurant – it beautifully overlooks the cliffs and the water. It was such a natural setting – Brian actually had a bird eat out of his hand, ha! beachlunch.jpg picture by kristenebailey
We took full advantage of the public transportation systems while we were there – the buses and the ferries. The bus "station" was actually just a pole on the side of an extremely busy road – it felt like we were playing chicken every time we waited. The ferry was a much more pleasant experience – this is us on the ferry after dinner one night.

Greenbank is located in the bay. Cindy & David have a floating dock that's great to layout on/jump off. Here's Brian enjoying the last couple of hours before we had to catch our flight. We were so sad to leave, but we had a fantastic week!! Thank you Cindy & David for everything – we are so happy we got to spend time with you!
